At last, a suitable smart copy of this astounding screwball romantic comedy! Great friendly to the Hollywood Classics DVD which was washed-out and missing a key scene.

Well, this is fair one of the best of the half-dozen or so top screwball comedies of the 30’s. A dream cast plays it light and loose, with the exact world of Depression-era America as a backdrop to a treasure myth and a light lesson in responsibility, both to one’s friends & family, to one’s society, and to one’s better nature.

And what a cast. William Powell is the epitome of debonair (what a quaint term: NO ONE is debonair anymore, alas) with one of the best comedic touches and timing in the business. Opposite Powell is Carole Lombard, young, adorable, fine and screwy and a perfect foil for Powell’s unexcited decorum. The supporting cast is first rate: Eugene Pallete the long-suffering businessman/husband; Gail Patrick, the magnificent but bitchy Cornelia; Mischa Auer’s deadbeat Carlo; Alice Brady’s clueless mother; Jean Dixon’s wisecracking maid & Alan Mowbry as the rich & useless but decent Tommy Gray.

Enjoy comedy played by pros to a fare-thee-well. It’s all attitude and delivery and body english and it is substantial! They can’t produce them like this anymore. Style and class.

The extras are quite capable with a nice commentary track by Bob Gilpin and some hysterical outtakes (yes, they cussed attend then too!) . The print is comely mighty dapper and a gigantic improvement over previous editions.

For those of you lucky enough to know, or who propose to secure to know, this flick, you’ve arrive to the just space. Amazon sells two DVD versions of My Man Godfrey. I’ve seen both, as well as the VHS, and this one, the least expensive, from a company called Platinum, is by far the best quality. The other DVD, by Madacy Entertainment, is a fiasco based on a poor print that happens to also be missing a crucial scene. Why Amazon continues to sell it, I don’t know.

As the Frigid War fades into memory, it is hard to justify the on-going, almost mystical fascination with The Miracle on Ice; the defeat of the vaunted Soviets by a bunch of unknown American college kids. Yes, national pride plays a gigantic role, and more generally everyone loves an underdog. But I consider what has really made this event such a cultural touchstone is the pure joy that surrounded it. Across the nation, and the world, for a myriad of reasons, but distilled and purified in the players and coaches who pursued their dream not for fame and fortune, but because the only dreams worth chasing are the hard ones.

“Miracle” captures this spirit down to the smallest nuance; in a day and age when you are as likely to read about athletes in the police blotter as the sports page, it is refreshing to see people play for the pure joy of sport and treasure of the game. The ability to prefer this admire of the game was made possible by the fact that every single one of the actors portraying a hockey player was first and foremost an loyal hockey player. That’s not to say they can’t act, but they sought out the opportunity because they have scored Eruzione’s game winning goal a thousand times on a rink or pond or even on asphalt and they wanted an opportunity to tap into a puny bit of that magic. They didn’t audition for “Miracle”, they tried out for it, and once they had the job, they went to training camp to prepare for filming. This attention to detail comes through in spades; I know hockey, but you don’t have to be an expert to realize these guys are in gigantic shape and have been on the receiving kill of a check more than once.

In inequity to these raw and unseasoned actors stands Kurt Russell, a Hollywood archaic (and admittedly a very gigantic hockey fan) . His portrayal of Herb Brooks is expressionless on; from the mutter and mannerisms down to the single minded determination to beat the best team in the world. Moreover, his punishing conditioning regimen and mind-bending schemes are accurately portrayed without bogging down in details that would likely bore even dedicated fans. The supporting cast is likewise strong, and wisely runt in big piece to fair Brooks’ wife and assistants. This focus mirrors the intention Brooks lived the game and minimizes distractions.

So the film has true hockey players and exquisite actors in all the key roles but the most daunting task for the director quiet remained: how to represent a game where the outcome is know when the NHL hasn’t found an entirely effective opinion for live games. The respond was to spend as many ice level shots as possible, which serves a twofold purpose. The first is that it is worthy easier to follow the puck when it is the focus of the shot, and at the same time, when a hit or injury is the key piece of the scene, the puck isn’t a distraction. The other reason this reach is successful is because this player’s peek concept of the ice injects a sense of urgency that makes victory seem in doubt even when it is a known factor. A corollary to this near is in the yarn of the game with the Soviets; the director wisely chose not to reinvent the wheel and aged Al Michael’s definitive call, which includes key commentary from Ken Dryden which can be informative for the non-hockey fan.

In the demolish, what this all adds up to is the perfect encapsulation of the joy I referenced above. The frosty hard fact is that we are unlikely to ever study such joy in sport again, as professionals have arrive to dominate Olympic team sports and high schoolers join the pro ranks as soon as they graduate and middle schoolers go to strength and conditioning camps under relentless pressure from their parents. What “Miracle” portrays is a joy born of a admire of competition, a adore of sport and a treasure of teammates that has become all too rare. That’s not to say that this movie only portrays sunshine and roses, but the ultimate goal transcended any one individual. Some of the best scenes in the movie have nothing to do with hockey, but rather the camaraderie that comes from sharing simple things with expedient friends.

Superb in its portrayal of perhaps the greatest sporting event of all time in every aspect – from acting to wardrobe to the game on the ice, “Miracle” is an absolute joy to recognize. It wisely frames the geo-political import of the game and then sets it aside, focusing instead on the beauty of sport and the satisfaction of hard earned accomplishments.

Jake Mohlman.

The first hockey games I ever watched were during the 1980 Winter Olympics and I know I was not alone in that respect. It took a while to understand what a blue line had to do with icing the puck and I have never gotten past the belief of what basketball would be like if it was played the same intention as hockey (you are allowed to spoiled the guy with the puck/ball) . But I remember watching the games the U.S. Hockey Team played against the Soviet Union and Finland. How titanic was the miracle that Al Michaels proclaimed during the final seconds of the semi-final match against the Soviets? Well, when “Sports Illustrated” came out the next week there was no need for a headline or caption on the camouflage photo of the U.S. team celebrating.

Knowing what is going to happen in “Miracle” is necessary because if we did not know that this team is going to collect the gold medal then we might suspect the means that coach Herb Brooks (Kirk Russell) is using to conclude that raze. Brooks is skittish by the 1960 Winter Olympics, when he was cleave from the U.S. team a week before it won the gold medal. It was also the last year the Americans beat the Soviets on the ice and Brooks knows how to pull off the upset against the best hockey team on the planet. All it will steal is a team that he handpicks playing the device he wants them to play.

The best section of this film is watching how Brooks does exactly that and then becomes basically a spectator and cheerleader when his team goes out and wins the gold medal. Director Gavin O’Connor hits a bulls recognize with the casting of Russell, who should gather serious Oscar consideration for his performance. The hard driven coach who puts his sport before his wife and family is something of a cliché, but what matters here is how Brooks’ determination and intelligence comes through as he molds his team.

The production also scores because they went out and got hockey players to act instead of trying to spurious us out the other procedure around. The only true professional actor on the team is Eddie Cahill, but he plays goalie Jim Craig. You can set anybody you want tedious a cover in goal on the ice (worn Edmonton Oilers’ goalie Bill Ranford in fact) and because Craig was such high maintenance and high profile he was the one role where you needed to up the acting level. But Michael Mantenuto as Jack O’Callahan, Patrick O’Brien Dempsey as Mike Eruzione, Nathan West as Take McLanahan, Eric Peter-Kaiser as Imprint Johnson, and the other 15 players on the team are playing exactly what they are: hockey players brought together to produce a team.

One thing I was surprised about in the film was that there is never an explicitly stated reason why Eruzione was picked as the team captain. Yet in the context of the film I was honest in thinking that I knew exactly what Eruzione was going to do that was going to accomplish him stand out as first among his teammates. (You will know what I am talking about when the moment comes) .

The fidelity to recreating the moments we remember from the 1980 Olympics was quite impressive. You can check out the added features on this two-disc DVD state to sight stutter comparisons of the television footage from the true games with the movie’s re-creations as well as the techniques stale to give you a dynamic feeling of being on the ice. Of course getting Al Michaels to “call” the games again was a necessity and it is not surprising that they worked in the new version of his celebrated line that gives the movie its title. You can re-create history but you cannot really improve on it, although this 2004 film does a nice job of trying to effect that particular feat. I impartial wonder if those who know nothing about what happened at Lake Placid in 1980 can enjoy that as grand as those of us who do.

Yes, I said trilogy. This location includes the Disney classic The Lion King and its two sequels,The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride and The Lion King 1 1/2. All three are titanic films, which is surprising, due to Disney’s history with doing sequels.

The Lion King is the classic myth of a young lion club named Simba who is next in line to become king of the Pride Lands. As he gets older, his uncle Scar begins to dislike him and Mufasa, Simba’s father and Scar’s older brother. Mufasa is king, which makes Scar exasperated, and he makes a space to ruin them both. The area is proven to be a success. Mufasa is killed and Simba, believing it to be his fault, runs off. He leaves the Pridelands and meets Timon and Pumbaa, a meekat and warthog who eats bugs. Simba soon joins the two and adopts their “Hakuna Matata”(it means no worries) lifestyle. Soon, Simba grows up and one day comes across his aged friend Nala, who tells him that Scar is destroying their home. Simba at first disagrees about doing something about it, but after meeting with a faded friend of his father named Rafiki, a wise mystic baboon, Simba gets attend on track and decides to challenge Scar and become……The Lion King.

This movie is truly one of the best bright movies ever made. With some improbable voice-overs(including James Earl Jones, Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, Whoppi Goldberg, and Jonathan Taylor Thomas) and a involving sage, The Lion King is truly a classic to peek. Five Stars.

While probably the least consuming of the area, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride is tranquil one unbelievable sequel. The fable revolves around Simba’s and Nala’s daughter named Kiara. Kiara one days ventures into the territory of the lioness named Zira. Zira is the wife of Scar and she wants revenge on Simba. Zira has a young lion club named Kovu and while Kiara is in Zira’s territory, she and Kovu rep to know each other. Soon, the two parents point to up and Simba takes Kiara home. At her home, Zira comes with a plan: she will order Kovu to slay Simba by getting to Kiara. Years later, they are now grown up and while Kiara is on her first hunt, a fire, location off by Zira’s other children, is burning the pridelands. Kiara barely makes to high ground and Kovu arrives impartial in time to achieve her. Simba sees him and Kovu tells him to give him a chance, while truly trying to slay him. Meanwhile, Rafiki is trying to glean Kiara and Kovu together, beliving it could end the feud between the two families. It proves to be a success as Kiara and Kovu tumble for each other. Soon Simba tries to collect to know Kovu better and finds out the truth about Kovu plans for Simba, which Kovu now doesn’t want to go through with, due to his feelings for Kiara. Kovu gets banished and Kiara runs off to bag him. Zira now decides to prefer on Simba’s pride by force and end Simba by herself. Now, Kovu and Kiara must finish this before the worst happens.

Better than most sequels, Simba’s Pride brings encourage all the characters from the current and introduces moving current characters. The fable, while less challenging than the first, quiet works for this film and the voice-overs are obedient as well.

Four Stars.

The newest addition to the series is The Lion King 1 1/2. This is the first film’s anecdote, told from Timon’s and Pumbaa’s point of idea. The account begins with Timon and his life before he took on his Hakuna Matata lifestyle. He makes tunnels for a living, but always screws them up. While Timon’s mom beleves he fair hasn’t found his site yet in the clan, Timon, along with his Uncle Max and the other meekats, bear he is honest a klutz and he isn’t gonna catch better anytime soon. Timon decides it’s time to score the home of his dreams and sets off with his mother’s permission. While on his quest, he meets Pumbaa and the two do a “aquaintship”, which soon becomes a friendship. They soon derive their dream home and everything seems perfect until one day they bag Simba and resolve to raise him until that fateday when Nala arrived. When they hear Simba has gone aid to the Pridelands to become king, Timon and Pumbaa must now wait on Simba procure his true to become the rightful king of the Pridelands.

This one is incredibly droll and also, very clever. The conception of seeing the myth from Timon and Pumbaa’s point of concept is delectable and the laughs are plenty. Overall, a original addition to the series that is new and fun. I give the Lion King 1 1/2 five stars.

I hope this review was salubrious. I hope you luxuriate in this dwelling of movies as distinguished as I did.

This three movie, six disc collection is definitely worth the note paid. This collection contains Disney’s The Lion King, Lion King 1 ½ and Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride. The Lion King is a distinguished beloved Disney classic. And while the Lion King 1 ½ and 2 are not nearly as beneficial as the current – they are comical and delectable in their fill accurate.

The special features, frankly, are not that helpful. There’s some games on them and some short montages on the characters. But mostly, I unprejudiced watched the movies.

My mom sent my daughter this video since she recently had a baby brother join our family and my mom notion our daughter would represent to this turtle. (In this video Franklin’s mother is pregnant with a second child and Franklin has to deal with his excitement, fears and jealousy about that, and there are other nice lessons to learn in the video via the Green Knight account, too.) I doubted very considerable that she would “score” the connection and I don’t know for distinct whether she has or not, but this is now her number one celebrated video, over the frail standards Elmo and Hold in the Spacious Blue House! It is long, but she loves it and pays attention to the entire thing every time. I admire the smiles on her face and her minute chuckles as the record progresses; she truly loves the Franklin character. We’ve had it less than a month and she has watched it at least 15 times (and I really limit her daily dose of TV; she objective picks this one everyday) . Accurate now I’m shopping for another Franklin video because he is a sweet character and the video we have has a very nice and non-violent account, which is notable to me. I don’t let my daughter look most Disney stuff yet because I don’t want her to survey fighting and other scary stuff yet; life is tough enough for a 2 year passe. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.

OK I am 12 and turning 13 next year, but I can’t salvage the songs like Brothers And Sisters .The movie is expedient even for kids my age I assume the series is ok but yet the movie is amazing. So if you have a 10 -12 year dilapidated who knows? Maybe they’ll like it.Rent It that’s all I’m saying .

My first experience with Baby Einstein videos was almost four years ago with my first daughter. Who screamed every time we tried to display her it. I ended up giving it away.

Fast foward to this year. My second daughter, who’s 16 months veteran, has some developmental delays. After chatting with moms of other babies with delays and hearing how considerable their kids enjoyed Baby Einstein videos, I decided to give it a second chance. After staring at them all at the store, I chose Baby Da Vinci, as it talked about body parts and one of the milestones my daughter hasn’t hit yet was the pointing to body parts one.

Well, first viewing – my older daughter, who unbiased turned four, sat down and watched it. The toddler showed vague interest…until the monkey puppets came on. I concept she wasn’t paying attention to it then suddenly heard her laughing hysterically at the monkeys. After a few viewings, she fell in care for. Even my older daughter wants to gape the “monkey video” as we call it. My toddler is now waving (something the monkeys do), something we couldn’t do after literally months of us encouraging her to wave to us and showing her how to wave. I also seek that she’s become more vocal since she first watched this video. (I have noticed she’s a mammoth fan of music, so maybe it has something to do with the music? )

And one other bonus – my toddler was cutting molars and woke up impartial unconsolable one night. Finally after a half hour of her crying and nothing working, I turned on Baby Da Vinci – as soon as the catapillar came across the shroud, she calmed down! Anyone who’s ever been up with a really gloomy baby can devour that!

I have most of the Baby Einstein videos. The last 2 releases are the worst work yet. The latest video, Da Vinci looks like they exercise 2 days on it, mastered it, and shipped it out. The bonus materials are a joke. The Puppet indicate, is a total of 3 x 10 second clips. The DVD plays repeated company branded intros with more plugs to their web location. The modern videos were suitable, and now, it’s certain that it’s honest a cash cow for Disney/Julie Aigner-Clark, so the value has gone down the tubes. If you are novel to these videos, initiate with the first ones like Mozart, where they actually cared about baby development. I would not recommend buying this unique.

“Mulligans” is, for the most portion, another one of those problematic, independent, gay-themed films that no major studio would touch. Overall, it’s not a awful movie… in fact, when it’s beneficial, it’s really superb. You unprejudiced have to gain through the plodding first half to glean to the genuine stuff.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Mulligans! Click Here

Let’s knock out first what doesn’t work here. First off, Charlie David (Spin) and Derek Baynham (Tyler) are Plan too traditional for their parts. They’re supposed to be college kids on summer crash, but they both study about 28 years frail (which, in fact, they were when this film was made.) This wouldn’t be quite so bothersome if not for the fact that Tyler’s parents, Nathan (Dan Payne) and Stacey (Thea Gill) study only about ten years older than him (which, in fact, they were when this film was made.)

Next: the gigantic, wearisome, loud party scene. `Nuff said.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Mulligans! Click Here

The biggest quandary I had with “Mulligans” was that writer/producer/actor David clearly had it in mind that his character, Wander, was supposed to be the focal point of the memoir. Considering the DVD box features his splendid mug 20 times larger than the family in the background, I’m easily led to maintain that this was intended to be something of a vanity project. Unfortunately, it probably became distinct to him halfway through filming that Straggle is only the catalyst here, and that the trusty legend – the though-provoking one – involves the family going through a less-than-orthodox breakdown.

Frankly, I didn’t care about the character of Ride at all. David’s one-note acting didn’t encourage the cause. Neither did the fact that Fling is a painter… something that was done far more realistically and thoughtfully in “Shelter”. Here, it’s unprejudiced a cliché map to note how sensitive Hump is. (Forget the fact that he embarks on an affair with his best friend’s still-quite-married dad while mom is away visiting grandma.) Accelerate would have made for a tremendous “dreadful guy” here; instead, David chooses to develop him arrive across as something of a nice-boy and a victim. It’s a old-fashioned choice that nearly unhinges the film.

It all looks like it’s going to go into the drink when something miraculous happens: the second half of the film. Nathan is discovered and forced to approach out, and suddenly the film takes on a third dimension.

A lot of the credit for this astonishing upturn is directly attributable to Dan Payne’s subtle, aching performance. He’s given the impossible task of making us hold that a ancient high-school football player turned Porsche-driving stud-businessman-golfer could be hiding in the closet for years, and succeeds beautifully. Yeh, it’s unlikely this could happen, but with Payne helming the ship through its most wonderful passages, it strikes us all as very loyal.

I have to say that I didn’t care for Thea Gill’s performance as doting-wife-and-mom Stacey throughout the first half of the film. She tries too hard to arrive across as a suburban phony, making for a lot of very forced moments. But, once again, once Nathan’s character is exposed, Gill drops the phony routine and shows us who Stacey really is: a bitter but realistic woman who is as tired of living a lie as Nathan is. The scene where she confronts her husband with the truth is so well done it’s nearly a share of another film. What could have plunged into a pool of soap ends up being the crowning scene in the film, one that brims with emotion and a refreshing sense of honesty. Bravo.

“Mulligans”

Going Forward by Looking Back

Amos Lassen

“Mulligans” is something of a recent ecstatic version of the classic Dustin Hoffman/Anne Bancroft film “The Graduate”. It, like “The Graduate” is a epic of coming-of-age with the extra themes of secrecy and betrayal as it looks at the new family and life after an affair. Written by and starring Charlie Daniel (The “Bump” Series, “Dante’s Cove” and “A Four Letter Word”) and directed by Chip Hale, this movie is a lot of fun and one you do not want to miss.

The record is simple. Tyler Davidson (Derek James) brings his friend Prance Rousseau (Charlie David) home from college with him for the summer. However, this is a summer vacation that is filled with secrets and one of them could very well roam the family apart. But there is something clear that also happens that summer–Tyler and Roam peer the meaning and importance of friendship and that it is possible to have a second chance.

Tyler’s family is not only the typical family (whatever that means in the 21st century) but it is also exemplary, almost perfect. When Rush arrives he is smitten by Tyler’s dad, Nathan and Nathan has to struggle against his feelings for Go in order to protect both his family and a secret about himself that he has kept hidden. However the affair between the two does not go unnoticed and as things near to light, the family is on the verge of collapse.

“Mulligans” is about family but more about parents. Everything appeared to be fair in the Davidson family until Lope caused the incident that forced everyone to embark on a amble of self-discovery and even though he is the catalyst for what happens in the movie, it is not about him; it is about family. The film also deals with forgiveness and we notice that it is never easy to forgive and that it can approach in many different ways. We also scrutinize that the “perfect” Davidson family has its acquire dysfunctions and that dysfunction in the American family seems to be the norm. Perhaps the overriding theme is the universality of appreciate and that the quest for treasure must start with self-honesty. We must learn to glean people for who they are and realize that people are honest that–people.

The film is filled with spacious dialog, ample actors and fine people. Although the sage may be simple in premise, the movie is intellectual and amusing.

The 30th Anniversary Edition of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was originally botched as a fullscreen-only danger. However, Warner listened to the people and gave them a unbelievable widescreen transfer.

Colors are vibrant, the 5.1 Dolby Digital track is very nice, and there are a handful of cold extras. There is the 30-minute documentary “Pure Imagination” which shows some of the cast today, including all the children and Gene Wilder himself. The interviews of the cast looking assist at the movie which was the defining thing for so many of them is very fascinating. The documentary on the whole is rather fulfilling. While one feels that the documentary could have delved deeper and maybe been an hour-long, at a brisk 30 minutes, the pacing seems okay and it won’t leave you wanting too remarkable more. There is a small amount of archival on-set “B” roll footage, but all that is there is captivating.

Also included is the modern theatrical trailer (Warner left off the 25th Anniversary trailer that was on the new DVD release from 1997), a 4-minute featurette on the production invent, and a feature-length audio commentary from the children, who have now grown up. The other features – “character bios” and sing-alongs – are blooming remarkable fluff features. Since this was one of my most anticipated DVD releases of the year, I can’t serve but feel Warner could have done more in the device of extra features – games, outtakes, deleted scenes, etc. Nevertheless, the overall exclaim of this DVD is satisfying enough.

WOW, I can’t fill how long ago this film was made and how fantastic it is even today! It really doesn’t seem like it’s from 1971. I have probably seen this film over 500 times by now, since the 80’s and I level-headed am not the least bit bored of it. At 28 years feeble, I aloof totally esteem this film!!! The characters, especially Gene Wilder who plays Willy Wonka, who is THE Willy Wonka, who could never be topped EVER (yes I’ve seen the 2005 film!), the music, the setting, the songs, and especially the Oompa-Loompa’s! Everything in this film is so wonderfully done and everyone who hasn’t seen it yet, needs to as soon as possible!!

My accepted dwelling or scene in the whole film has to be the sizable candy and chocolate room where Willy Wonka sings “Pure Imagination.” Not only for the song but because I can ogle how powerful work the director save into this film. All the candy and chocolate looks so accurate and alive and the whole room looks so stunning the device everything is dwelling up! I also fancy that teacher, Charlie’s teacher that you glimpse a lot until they go into the chocolate factory, he is so amusing! And it’s location in London, an added bonus!! I objective cannot pick up enough of this film or recommend this film enough!! It’s a masterpiece!!! It’s definitely one of my popular movies of all time!!!

Now in SUMMARY: Elephantine Cloak – “BROADWAY MELODY OF 1940″ starring the best tap dancing duo of all time Fred Astaire & Eleanor Powell. This in my concept is the best musical of this box spot. The recount & sound quality is absolutely fabulous. The dancing and Porters music is the best!!!! The musical film finale “Launch the Beguine” is extraordinary. The extra features include; Ann Miller hosts a background documentary Cole Porter in Hollywood: Inaugurate the Beguine (expansive info), Our Gang (Spanky etc) episode “The Grand Premiere”, Leisurely the Scenes Notes and trailer. This is a Black/White Fat Conceal film. What a musical. this film alone is worth the heed of admission. “KISS ME KATE” starring Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson and Ann Miller. This 1953 TECHNICOLOR DOLBY 5.1 musical is comely to peruse and the stars voices are amazing. The dancing choregraphy of genius Hermes Pan is outstanding, with young dancers,Bob Fosse, Carol Haney and Ann Miller. Extras include; Ann Miller hosts Cole Porter in Hollywood: Too Darn Hot, Music Track Only, Vintage documentary short “Considerable Manhatten, Unique Yorks Wonder City”, Slow the scenes notes and trailer.

ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN – “HIGH SOCIETY” Cole Porters 1956 musical remake of the 1940 comedy hit, “The Philadelphia Yarn”. This time starring Grace Kelly (her last film before marrying the Prince of Monaco), Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. This is my second well-liked of this box state. The shroud play, the music and the stars are perfectly cast. Note: Crosby & Kelly compose the “Legal Appreciate” duet and it becomes a gold describe. This TECHNICOLOR widescreen remastered characterize presentation is better than the modern theatrical release with Dolby 5.1 sound. Porters songs are at their best. We even have Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong jiving too.

Extras include; Celeste Holm hosts Cole Poter in Hollywood; Proper Esteem, Premiere Newsreel, Audio-Only radio ads featuring Crosby, Kelly & Sinatra, Millionaire Droopy Cartoon, leisurely the scenes notes and trailer. Don’t miss “HIGH SOCIETY” with the regal ravishing beauty of Grace (actually wearing her precise engagement ring – what a rock), the crooner Crosby and Obsolete Blue Eyes Frank this is an outstanding delight to view and listen too!!!! “SILK STOCKINGS” – Porters 1957 musical adaptation of Garbos “Ninotchka” – starring Fred Astaire & Cyd Charisse. This TECHNICOLOR WIDESCREEN DOLBY 5.1 presentation is glorious to glance and provides us with their last MGM musical. Directed by George Cukor this Widescreen Technicolor Dolby 5.1 DVD is aesthetic to perceive but is the least known of Porters musicals. Les Girls: Th epic of a showman and his Les Girls as each girl tells their narrative.

In my thought, I mediate that the not-well-known Cole Porter’s “The Pirate” with Gene Kelly and Judy Garland should be in this boxset INSTEAD of “Les Girls”.

A 10th Anniversary DVD seems a bit vaunted for this familiar 1998 romantic comedy since it continues to play repeatedly on TBS and other cable outlets. It’s no wonder since Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have the kind of ingratiating rapport that makes it easy to traipse into one of their movies no matter what fragment you obtain yourself watching. Directed by the acerbic Nora Ephron, who helmed 1993’s Sleepless in Seattle with the same pair, this movie gleams with the same kind of good-natured, Hollywood-style gloss that made the previous outing a hit. However, the pieces fit a exiguous too perfectly for me, so grand so that it feels packaged for maximum audience appeal. It really takes the combined skills of Hanks and Ryan to design this delightful, even likable, but it’s not without its challenges.

As with Sleepless in Seattle, Ephron, along with her sister Delia as co-screenwriter, attempts to update a tried-and-true film classic, this time Ernst Lubitsch’s The Shop Around the Corner (1940), about two people who are concurrently in an antagonistic professional relationship and also anonymous pen-pals fantasizing who the other may be in loyal life. The novelty this time is that the yarn takes dwelling at the dawn of the Internet age when people automatically location up AOL accounts with incognito camouflage names. E-mail and instant messaging have replaced the need for the postal system to exchange anticipated appreciate letters. The sage focuses on Joe Fox, one of the wealthy owners of a mega-bookstore chain called Fox Books, a doppelganger for Borders or Barnes & Worthy. On Manhattan’s Starbucks-saturated Upper West Side, he is opening one of his frightening stores in the vicinity of The Shop Around the Corner, a specialty children’s bookstore owned by Kathleen Kelly.

Much of the movie has to do with her attempts to defend her antiquated turf and ward off the inevitable cannibalization of her dinky business. I actually found this fraction of the movie attractive with nice tweaks in the verbal interplay on corporate greed. I especially liked the sharply scripted scene in the coffeehouse when Kathleen succinctly puts down Joe’s business intentions. The other side of the film is the burgeoning like fable between Joe and Kathleen on AOL where under their veil names `NYC152′ and `Shopgirl’, they pick up themselves bonding and falling in care for. Similar to what occurs in the unique movie and the Judy Garland musical remake, In the Splendid Ragged Summertime, Joe finds out who `Shopgirl’ is before Kathleen realizes that he is `NYC152′, allowing for an extended courting sequence from Kathleen’s sickbed through the Union Square Greenmarket and other locales.

Hanks is a more avuncular presence as Joe and not as manically amusing as usual except for a droll scene where he attempts to camouflage his identity in her bookstore. As Kathleen, Ryan is sometimes on twinkle overdrive, but she manages to arrive support to her innate malleability as an actress, a quality not all that approved among the subsequent generation of rom-com heroines (for example, Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days or Hilary Swank in P.S., I Treasure You) . Most importantly, even when the material feels like retread, the pair has positive chemistry. The supporting cast is adept and filled with strong players – Parker Posey as Joe’s self-obsessed book editor girlfriend Patricia, Greg Kinnear as Kathleen’s intellectually pompous boyfriend Frank, a young Dave Chappelle as Joe’s colleague Keith, Jean Stapleton as Kathleen’s eccentric partner.

The 2008 Deluxe Edition DVD maintains all the features of the previous 1999 DVD, specifically an sharp commentary track by Ephron and producer Lauren Shuler Donner, a brief HBO short with Ephron, a music video of Carole King’s “Anything at All”, a music-only audio track, and an interactive tour of the filming locations in Novel York’s Upper East Side. Unfortunately, there are no deleted or expanded scenes offered in either the customary or fresh DVD releases. The print transfer on the recent DVD is dapper and vibrant, and there are two current featurettes offered as allotment of the package. The first is “Delivering You’ve Got Mail” where Hanks and Ryan – both looking friendly but not overly engaged – reminisce about the filmmaking experience a decade later. The second, “You’ve Got Chemistry”, is really more about romantic comedy as a genre rather than anything particular about this production.

Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks shine in this romantic comedy. This is the second time this duo have performed together (Sleepless in Seattle) . Perhaps that helps gain the quiet natural tone of the interactions between the two. Ryan plays a bookstore shop owner…a cramped minute store first accelerate by her mother. Hanks company is building a spacious bookstore chain in the same neighborhood. The two cannot stand each other. Besides their business lives, the two are both chatting with an consuming person through the internet and contain they are falling in appreciate with the person. Miniature do they know, it is really each other! Will they meet? And if they do, will they descend in worship or be haunted and vexed? See the movie to score out what happens!
